The 24 Open Retrievers and handlers had an incredibly hot, sticky day to cope with, as temperatures rose and remained high throughout the first day on demanding terrain.
Everyone was wilting by the end of day 1 (but the dogs at least managed to take repeated cool dips in the stream that ran through the trial ground).
We were provided with an ample supply of birds on this stunning ground and saw exceptional shooting by our team of guns.
The six dogs that made it through the first day deserved a big pat on the back.
These were:

Jofless Epaulette Of Shadowbrae handled and owned by Thomas Bushby
Kentwone Columbine of Leacaz handled and owned by Lee Hartis
Ffynongain Buzzard of Wauniago handled and owned by Mike Jones

Today saw our final novice field trial at Emblehope and Burngrange estate by kind permission of The Kennel Club and Gamekeeper Raymond Holt.
The weather suited dogs more than their handlers with intermittent rain most of the day – but it didn’t dampen the spirits of all attending. We are always provided with a warm welcome.
Sincere thanks to our judges, Thomas Bushby (A), Paul Hasney (B), Ian Palmer (B) and Michael Nelson (NP). Without them giving up their time, our events couldn’t take place.

Also Liz Lisett in supporting Jeff with the dog stewarding and Barbara who helped carrying game.
Irene Davison's continued support to myself and the club is impeccable. I can't thank you enough. May it long continue.
As ever, we are proud to have Skinner’s Dog Food sponsoring our field trials with vouchers for all our winners. Also we’re very appreciative of gift vouchers from Sporting Saint this year. These have been well received.

Our sincere thanks to our Judges, Mark Demaine, Kevin Haynes, Simon Capstick and Thomas Plamboeck for giving up their time. Your support for our events is greatly appreciated and key to our events taking place.
Grateful thanks to John Castle and the team of guns, your attendance is extremely valued in helping our trial go ahead. My personal thanks to Jeff and Julie Smart for their constant attendance and help at our field trials. Their valuable help and that of Anne Holt, is genuinely appreciated.
Following two days of heavy rainfall, the day was dry but unfortunately we did not get any results at the end of the trial.
Thank you to everyone attending and supporting our field trials and we hope for better results at our next event.

Results of each one are shown below
14 dog A.V. ALL AGE Retriever Field Trial 23RD OCTOBER 2019 - EGGLESTON FELL, COUNTY DURHAM
Our final trial of the season (14 Dog All Aged Retriever Stake at Eggleston Fell,) was held on the superb ground provided by kind permission of Mr Stone's Estate and Head Keeper Mr Robert Beadle, which retained its reputation of an exceptional trialling ground.
Robert Beadle and his Estate guns were, as always lethally outstanding, providing us with a plentiful and varied selection of game in the sunny but chilly autumnal Durham countryside.
Many thanks go to our judges, Mr Glyn Coupar, Mr Thomas Bushby, Mr Jim Christon and Mr Brian Dodsworth who ensured the trial ran smoothly and provided us with a fair result.
Sincere thanks to our team of helpers today who have carried game, carried our defibrillator, sorted the raffle and catered; and to those who have attended our trials this year to help out. We hope you enjoyed it and gained a lot of experience. Our volunteers came from committee and non-committee members, with special mention to Jeff and Julie Smart (including running the day today), who have worked tirelessly all season and provided such valuable help at every trial ably assisted today by Michelle, Becki, Yvonne and Malcolm. Thank you.
Skinner's Dog Food Vouchers were provided to award winners and their generosity for our working events is unstinting and always gratefully received.
Congratulations to:-
1st Place and Best Handler - Simon Capstick with Drakeshead Diva of Gunnerspeg.
2nd and Guns Choice - Paul Stogden with Routengill Apollo.
No other awards.
A very enjoyable relaxed trial, with a close result.
Our 2019 trials are now complete and we thank everyone for their continued support, ensuring our trials have been well attended and draws over-subscribed. We feel this is in no small part due to the exceptional grounds we are given permission to use and our thanks go to all landowners concerned and their game keeping teams.
However if we do not get more helpers at our trials (committee and members), these may have to be reduced as we cannot expect the same people year in year out to take such a slice from their works holiday leave to ensure the trials take place.
Club thanks also go to Lee Hartis our Field Trial Secretary who has organised every trial, which takes up so much time including the countless phone calls and messages. Thank you Lee.
