Please read our guidelines on Buying a Puppy along with our Terms and Conditions.
There may also be rescue Labradors available from Labrador Welfare.
Are you looking to own a Labrador?
Do you want to be sure it is healthy and bred by responsible breeders?
Please read ALL the following notes and then check the Puppy Register above or complete
a relevant questionnaire.
Northumberland and Durham Labrador Retriever Club hold a register of reputable member breeders and publish comprehensive information on our website to ensure the public has as much information as possible before purchasing puppies or older dogs.
You should bear in mind that there will be times when no puppies/dogs are available. We ask you to be patient......this is a very big responsibility which will be life changing in many respects and not something that should be rushed into without great thought.
If you then still decide to go ahead - we will try our best to help. You first need to complete one of our buyer questionnaires and once submitted we will contact you to advise of availability.
We would also ask you to consider re-homing a rescue Labrador, details of which are here.
As a committee, we have elected to ask participating breeders for health checks that we as owners would ask for.
All dogs on the register must be:-
Kennel Club Registered
Bred by members of Northumberland and Durham Labrador Retriever Club
Be from health tested parents who both meet the minimum health standards.
Whilst the decision to purchase and from whom is solely the buyers responsibility; we would encourage any potential buyer to be thoroughly prepared and to ask certain questions from any breeder. Examples are below and whilst this is not an exhaustive list; it may help you when deciding on your new addition. But firstly ask yourself the questions shown below.

Examples are below and whilst this is not an exhaustive list; it may help you when deciding on your new addition. But firstly ask yourself the questions shown below.
- Have you read the club’s Code of Ethics and are you prepared for such commitment with a Labrador?
- Are your whole family looking forward to living with a Labrador?
- Do you have sufficient room in your home for a fully grown Labrador? (bearing in mind in adulthood they can weigh up to 40 kilos)
- Is your car/transport big enough for a fully grown Labrador?
- Can you ensure your Labrador will not be left alone/unsupervised for long periods?
- Are you prepared for the cost of pet insurance or costly vet fees?
Possible questions to ask your chosen breeder:
- Can I see proof of both parents health tests? (This is essential! and you can also check this information on the Kennel Club website)
- Why did you choose the sire of this litter?
- How many litters has this bitch had? (you can check this beforehand if you want, on the Kennel Club website)
- Can I see where the mother and pups live? (Be sure you are happy with the conditions)
- What are the Estimated Breeding Values on the mating?
Please note: Northumberland and Durham Labrador Retriever Club are not advertising puppies for sale on behalf of anyone. We are purely looking to assist potential Labrador owners by advising of member breeders who are breeding from dogs that have met health requirements for the good of the breed.
It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to ensure they carry out their own assessments before buying a dog from anyone and we cannot be held responsible for any problems that may ensue.
